The Dobunni were part of the Bell Beaker people. They were largely peaceful - farmers and craftsmen who favoured fertile valleys for their homes. Fascinatingly their territory stretched almost exactly over the area that we know as the Cotswolds today. The Dobunni's southern border was at Nettleton Shrub, a few miles south of Easton Grey. They were one of the few tribes to issue coins before the arrival of the Romans. Two of the earliest coins found in Easton Grey were minted by the Dobunni. Both coins are silver and bear the name BODVOC. Bodvoc ruled over the Northern part of the Dobunni tribe towards the end of the first century B.C. His is the first name and the first accurate time link we have with Easton Grey which was an important crossing of the River Avon to be exploited by the Romans. It is very likely that a trading settlement pre existed the Romans besides the River Avon.
